Como alternativa al medio de transporte por carreteras, varias compañías empezaron a recurrir a las operaciones de cabotaje para trasladar su mercancía. El uso de esa modalidad por la vía marítima va en aumento y solo en esta semana se tiene previsto el traslado de 220 contenedores de 40 pies, señaló el Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones (MTC).
Esa carga corresponde a distintas empresas del rubro retail, consumo masivo, electrodomésticos, construcción, entre otros, que se enviarán desde el puerto del Callao al puerto de Matarani (Arequipa). Asimismo, otros 40 contenedores se trasladarán en la ruta de Callao al Puerto de Paita (Piura).
Esta posibilidad se da debido a los esfuerzos que el MTC viene realizando desde el 2019 con navieras y empresas locales, a través de las direcciones generales de Políticas y Regulación en Transporte Multimodal, y de Autorizaciones en Transportes; para que realicen el traslado de los contenedores con mercancía dentro del territorio nacional.
Hasta la fecha, la entidad ha autorizado a 34 naves para estas labores y se espera que continúe creciendo la oferta. El tráfico de cabotaje es una alternativa eficiente, competitiva en costos, predictible, segura, amigable con el medio ambiente y complementaria al transporte terrestre.
Desde que se realizó la primera operación de cabotaje marítimo, en diciembre de 2019, hasta la actualidad se han trasladado 1,000 toneladas de carga. A la fecha, se han realizado 27 operaciones de cabotaje.
El MTC ha venido impulsando esta alternativa desde 2018, cuando se aprobó el Decreto Legislativo N° 1413, cuyo objetivo es promover y facilitar el transporte marítimo en tráfico de cabotaje a fin de generar una alternativa competitiva de transporte de pasajeros y carga en la costa peruana.
